What She Tried To Paint

She paints what she cannot eat
cannot possess or describe.
She paints what won’t stay put
stay as it is or
change. She paints what she
cannot grow cannot catch
or forget. She paints
what she cannot guess grasp
or fathom. What she cannot
embrace pamper
or accuse. Neglect,
let run wild. Chop down,
tear up. Set fire to.
Regret. She paints
what won’t let her sleep
what she doesn’t remember,
not in colour. What she cannot sing
or rejoice at.
The undefined still
beckons indefinably.
