Hitchhiking to Acedia

This afternoon the shoot will be a success
this afternoon

is the right day
the right sunlight is just over there

his silhouette crawls across the vineyard
his nails cleave the red earth

tears turn the face-paint to froth
the stylist runs around with a wig

he takes a cigarette from his breast pocket
and breaks it in half

this afternoon he shouts and slaps me on the shoulder
while I keep an eye on traffic.
